GOVERNMENT MEDICARE INITIATIVES
Government Medicare Initiatives:
The federal government has several Medicare initiatives, whereby families can receive rebates towards the cost of consultations with allied health professionals, such as; speech pathologists, social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

Medicare Initiative 1: Enhanced Primary Care Program
For patients with chronic conditions (e.g. Persisting for more than 6 months) which can include autism spectrum disorders, behaviour disorders, depression, anxiety, etc.
- Obtain a referral from your GP. This can be for yourself, or your child (or for more session rebates, both of you)
- Obtain a rebate of $46.80 per session for up to 5 sessions per calendar year.
Medicare Initiative 2: Better access to mental Health Care Initiative
For patients with a mental health concern (e.g. depression, anxiety, conduct disorder, attention deficit disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, sleep disorders).
- Obtain a referral from your GP. This can be for yourself, or your child (or for more session rebates, both of you)
- Obtain a rebate of $75.00 per session, for up to 12 individual sessions per calendar year. (Note: consultations with clinical psychologists attract a higher rebate)
